Australian actor Jacob Elordi will serve as the primary narrator for the audio version of Eric Dane's posthumous memoir, My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments. This is reported by Wave RBC.UA citing Entertainment Weekly. The book, in which Elordi's Euphoria co-star candidly discusses his battle with addiction and life with a terminal illness, will hit shelves on November 3, 2026. Maria Shriver—founder of The Open Field, the publishing imprint releasing the memoir—will also join the audio project to narrate her written section, "Dear Reader."
A Bond That Extended Beyond the Set
For Elordi, participating in the project is a chance to connect with the personal story of a colleague with whom he starred across three seasons of Euphoria. In the series, the Australian actor played Nate Jacobs, while Dane played his father, Cal. According to Dane himself, his relationship with the young actor wasn't limited to the screen: in a 2025 interview with TooFab shortly before the release of the third season, he spoke warmly of his "onscreen son," calling him "a truly great guy" and noting his dedication to his craft. "Working with him is a real pleasure," Dane emphasized, adding that they loved discussing acting technique.
The Final Season and ALS Diagnosis
Eric Dane appeared in two episodes of the final season of Euphoria. By the time of filming, he was already battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and experiencing speech difficulties. This is why his character was portrayed in a slightly intoxicated state during this season—how the creators explained the changes in the character's behavior. This work became one of the actor's final screen appearances. As known, Dane publicly revealed his ALS diagnosis and passed away on February 19, 2026, at the age of 53—nearly ten months after announcing his illness.
Personal Pages: Addiction and a Conversation with His Wife
In the memoir, Dane shares memories, discusses his struggle with addiction, and reflects on his feelings after learning of his terminal diagnosis. One excerpt published by People magazine focuses on a conversation with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, right after receiving the diagnosis. "I tell Rebecca on the phone, 'This is what we were afraid of.' I don't remember a single word I said after that," the actor wrote. Despite her tears, his wife assured him she would stay by his side and they would fight the disease together. The couple had been set to divorce after 14 years of marriage, but the diagnosis changed their plans—Rebecca withdrew the divorce filing.
Legacy and Release Date
According to publisher Maria Shriver, Eric wanted to leave his family a story they could be proud of. Dane gained widespread recognition for his role as Dr. Mark Sloan in Grey's Anatomy; in addition, he starred in films and TV shows including Charmed and Marley & Me. Both the audio version and the print edition of My Book of Days: A Memoir in Moments will become available to readers and listeners on November 3, 2026.
