The night of June 9 marked a new escalation for the Kharkiv region. Russian forces launched a massive strike, utilizing both unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles. Two key settlements came under fire: the regional capital, Kharkiv, and the city of Chuhuiv. The tragic consequences of the attack were reported by the head of the regional military administration, Oleg Syniehubov, and representatives of the State Emergency Service.
Kharkiv: fires and destruction in residential districts
In the regional capital, the strikes primarily hit the Shevchenkivskyi and Holodnohirskyi districts. As a result of the attack, large-scale fires broke out in the city. The flames engulfed cafe buildings, municipal infrastructure facilities, and dozens of passenger cars parked in courtyards and on streets.
The damage was not limited to commercial objects. Multi-story residential buildings, private cottages, administrative buildings, and production workshops sustained damage. A business center and a church are among the list of affected facilities. Preliminary data indicates that 15 people were injured in Kharkiv, including two children.
Chuhuiv: casualties among civilians
The situation in Chuhuiv proved to be even more tragic. As a result of a missile strike, three people were killed, and three others were injured. Explosions ignited garages, cars, and grass in open areas within the city. Residential buildings and other structures essential for the city's functioning sustained damage.
Rescuers and emergency services are working at the scene. As seen in the photo from the site, SES employees have set up an operational headquarters to coordinate firefighting efforts and the liquidation of the attack's aftermath. Work continues on a round-the-clock basis.
