On the morning of October 16, 2026, Russian occupation forces launched a series of unmanned aerial vehicle strikes on Kharkiv. Four city districts were hit simultaneously — Osnovianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, Industrialnyi, and Nemyshlianskyi. According to the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration and the City Council, the attacks resulted in two deaths, 19 injuries among residents, and left a significant part of the city without electricity supply.

Four districts under fire: chronology of the strikes

The first hits by enemy drones were recorded in the Osnovianskyi, Shevchenkivskyi, and Industrialnyi districts of Kharkiv. Later, at around 11:55, another strike was recorded in the Nemyshlianskyi district, where a drone hit the roof of a civilian enterprise. This was reported by the head of the Kharkiv RMA, Oleh Syniehubov, and Mayor Ihor Terekhov, whose statements were cited by RBC-Ukraine. Thus, within a few hours, the attacks engulfed almost all key administrative zones of the city.

Market and critical infrastructure: consequences for residents

According to Mayor Ihor Terekhov, a city market was among the targets of the Russian drones, where two traders were killed. In addition, strikes hit critical infrastructure facilities: about 280,000 subscribers were left without electricity. The large-scale power outage affected residential neighborhoods, social institutions, and enterprises, creating additional risks for the city's livelihood amid ongoing attacks.

Victims and casualties: medical data

As of the time of publication, two deaths are known — a 71-year-old woman and a 58-year-old man. A total of 19 people were injured: 12 sustained injuries of varying severity, and another 5 suffered acute stress reactions. Ten victims have been hospitalized, two of whom are in serious condition. Doctors continue to provide assistance to the wounded, and exact figures may be updated as data from medical institutions comes in.

Beyond Kharkiv: attacks in Rivne and alert in Manevychi

The attacks on October 16 were not limited to Kharkiv. On the morning of the same day, Russian forces struck a large shopping and entertainment center in Rivne. In Volyn, in Manevychi, following a Russian attack, a warning was issued about a potential accident at one of the settlement's enterprises involving an ammonia leak into the air. These events indicate that strikes on civilian infrastructure and daily life facilities affect several regions of Ukraine at once.
