Former US Special Envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg gave a detailed comment to the Suspilne TV channel, outlining the current status of diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict. According to him, the negotiation process between Ukraine, the US, and Russia has effectively been suspended, although he considers this pause a positive development.
Diplomatic priorities and a pause in dialogue
Kellogg explained the reasons for the lull in the diplomatic track. Key figures, such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, are currently engaged in negotiations with Iran. Kellogg noted that it is difficult for them to handle two such large-scale directions simultaneously. "So it's good that they are working on Iran right now, and I think the negotiation process is effectively suspended. That's not bad. It's actually good," the former special envoy emphasized.
In Kellogg's opinion, the shift in focus of American diplomacy leaves Ukraine in a situation where it continues to fight Russia on its own. At the same time, he expressed confidence that Kyiv is doing this effectively.
Sanctions and Russia's military potential
Questions regarding sanctions policy were also raised during the conversation. Kellogg stated that the US sanctions package against Russia is "not yet complete." He did not confirm any plans to ease restrictions, noting that pressure from Washington remains.
Responding to questions about the security of the Baltic states and Eastern Europe, Kellogg urged not to panic. He expressed the opinion that Vladimir Putin currently does not have the resources to expand military operations beyond the current theater of war, including towards Poland or the Baltic states. "Yes, they are safe. I think people are wringing their hands in a negative sense, and I wouldn't worry about it. I think everyone needs to relax a bit," he noted.
Trump's plans and a visit to Kyiv
To conclude the conversation, Kellogg touched upon the position of the current US President Donald Trump. According to him, Trump advocates for ending the prolonged conflict and achieving a peaceful settlement. The plan for Kellogg's own visit to Ukraine was also confirmed, which is scheduled to take place in late summer 2026.
Previously, Keith Kellogg stated that Russia is not achieving its goals in the war and is effectively not winning it, emphasizing the need to move to a full-fledged negotiation process.
