A sensational incident occurred in Kharkiv, raising the issue of law enforcement officer safety once again. On June 25, in the Saltovsky district of the city, a man with a knife attacked police officers who were conducting a routine document check. As a result of the attacker's aggressive actions, two patrol service officers sustained physical injuries.

Sequence of events: from check to attack

According to information provided by the police of the Kharkiv region, the incident occurred around 16:00. Patrol officers stopped a citizen to check his documents. Initially, the situation developed in a standard manner, but during the conversation, the man's behavior changed abruptly. He began to act aggressively and suddenly attacked the law enforcement officers, arming himself with a knife.

The police managed to prevent more serious consequences, but injuries could not be avoided. Currently, the perpetrator has been detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. Investigative actions are ongoing, and the question of notifying the suspect of suspicion of committing a crime is being resolved.

Who is the attacker

The attacker's identity was quickly established. Law enforcement officers found out that the man has a serious criminal past and has previously been held criminally liable multiple times for committing various crimes. In addition, the suspect is wanted for evading mobilization.

The incident has already been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations under Part 2 of Article 345 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which provides for liability for threatening or using violence against a law enforcement officer.

Rise in aggression: statistics of recent months

The incident in Kharkiv is not an isolated case. Recently, Ukraine has seen a worrying increase in aggressive attacks on representatives of the security forces. Such provocations require law enforcement officers to maintain heightened vigilance and readiness for extreme situations.

Particularly sensational events have occurred in other regions of the country:

  • Khmelnytskyi region (May 2026): An armed perpetrator killed a police officer and then fled into a forest strip. The attempt to escape ended tragically: the man threw a grenade at a forestry service vehicle and later opened fire on a law enforcement armored vehicle. The killer was neutralized during a shootout.
  • Dnipro region (April): In the Synelnykove district, a drunk man attacked police officers by throwing grenades at them. As a result of the explosions, five law enforcement officers sustained shrapnel injuries of varying severity.
  • Rivne region (late April): In the Dubno district, a man opened fire with a machine gun at military mobilization center personnel and a community police officer. The shooting began during an attempt to check documents. Two officers were injured, after which the police announced a special operation to detain the shooter.

These cases indicate that document checks are becoming increasingly dangerous for police officers, who are forced to confront armed and socially dangerous elements of society.
