Personnel of the 101st Separate Brigade of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have released the results of aerial reconnaissance over Kupiansk. Footage captured by unmanned aerial vehicles demonstrates large-scale destruction covering almost all sectors of the city. According to preliminary assessments by specialists, there are no objects left within the settlement that have not sustained damage of varying degrees of severity.
Scale of residential destruction
Visual analysis of the video footage indicates critical degradation of the urban environment. The systematic use of artillery, long-range strike systems, and aviation munitions has led to catastrophic consequences for the housing stock. The situation in the high-rise sector is assessed as irreversible: most buildings have through-damage to load-bearing structures, signs of thermal impact, and collapsed stairwells. A significant portion of these buildings is classified as beyond repair.
The situation in the private sector is no less dire. Single-story structures have retained their outlines only fragmentarily. Mass destruction of roofs, truss systems, and floor slabs has been recorded, rendering most buildings uninhabitable.
Infrastructure and transport destruction
The destruction has affected not only residential buildings but also the city's social sphere. Park zones, places of worship, and commercial areas have been deformed and destroyed. The video particularly highlights the critical volume of destroyed vehicles—both private and municipal. Cars scattered across the streets have become an integral part of the panorama of destruction.
Operational context and legal assessment
Kupiansk, a major railway hub, has been under fire for a long time. Official representatives of the Russian Ministry of Defense state that strikes are being conducted exclusively against military objects, positions, and concentrations of Ukrainian Armed Forces equipment. At the same time, the Ukrainian side characterizes the events as a tactic of total destruction of the urban environment, making the presence of civilians in the city impossible.
Damage assessment has been entrusted to the National Police of Ukraine and the regional prosecutor's office. The collected materials will form the basis for legal documentation. According to Article 25 of the Additional Protocol to the Hague Convention, attacks on undefended cities and dwellings are prohibited, making the current documentation of destruction an important element for future international investigations.
