As a result of a large-scale shelling of the city of Sumy on October 4, 2026, the production facility of the major pharmaceutical company Kusum Ukraine was completely destroyed. The tragic incident claimed the life of an enterprise employee: engineer Yevhen Volodymyrovych Miroshnychenko, who had worked in the plant's engineering department since 2009, was killed. The management and staff express their deepest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased specialist.
Scale of Destruction and Humanitarian Consequences
The destroyed enterprise played a crucial role in supporting Ukraine's healthcare system, as it produced life-saving medications for patients across the country. According to the company's press service, the management's main task now is to prevent a shortage of medicines and maintain uninterrupted citizen access to necessary treatments. Currently, specialized experts are conducting a detailed assessment of the damage inflicted on the infrastructure.
International Logistics as a Tool for Salvation
Despite the fact that the Sumy plant has been wiped off the face of the earth, the company has additional production capacities outside of Ukraine — in the Indian cities of Indore and Bhiwadi. Management states that in the absence of artificial regulatory and bureaucratic obstacles by the state, these capacities will allow for the rapid restructuring of supply chains and the establishment of continuous drug deliveries to the Ukrainian market.
Background and Systematic Infrastructure Strikes
It is worth noting that this is not the company's first loss of logistics and production facilities: earlier enemy shelling had already completely destroyed a Kusum Ukraine warehouse, though the enterprise found ways to continue operations back then. Experts link this incident to a general trend of targeted strikes against Ukraine's civilian infrastructure, including the recent destruction of the Parkovy data center in Kyiv and the Sushiia restaurant chain warehouses.
