The night attack on the Ukrainian capital has led to tragic consequences. The number of fatalities resulting from the massive strike has increased: a victim in critical condition died in one of the hospitals. Thus, the death toll in Kyiv has reached five people.

Scale of destruction and casualties

According to the latest data from the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, the number of injured as a result of the attack has risen to 34 people. Among the injured are two children. The Kyiv City Military Administration clarifies that among the injured are children aged 5 and 6.

Destruction has been recorded in ten districts of the capital. Strikes also hit the Kyiv region: residential buildings were damaged in five districts of the region, and a child is also among the injured there.

Fire at the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

One of the most resonant consequences of the night attack was the fire in the Dormition Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The historical monument and active temple were seriously damaged by the fire, which broke out as a result of munitions hitting the site.

Destruction of cultural heritage

The loss of cultural values causes particular pain. During the night attack, Russian troops destroyed Ukraine's largest costume collection. At the Dovzhenko Film Studio, about 100,000 costumes and three million items of clothing were burned. This is a colossal loss for the Ukrainian film industry and the country's cultural heritage.

Nature of the attack and air defense operations

On the night of August 24, the occupiers used more than 680 air attack weapons against Ukraine. The attack arsenal included:

  • 6 3M22 "Zircon" anti-ship missiles;
  • 34 "Iskander-M"/S-400 ballistic missiles;
  • 30 Kh-101/"Iskander-K" cruise missiles;
  • 611 strike and decoy drones of various types (Shahed, "Gerbera", "Italmas", "Bandrol", "Parody").

Ukrainian air defense forces destroyed or suppressed 632 of these targets, preventing an even greater number of casualties and destruction.
