Kyiv–Chop highway closed near Kyiv after attack: warehouses on fire in Bucha district, police impose restrictions on detour routes

On the night of 29 August 2026, in the Kyiv region, traffic was completely blocked on a section of one of the country's key highways — the M-06 Kyiv–Chop road — as a result of an enemy attack. This was announced by the Head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Beloshitsky, who clarified that the restrictions apply to all vehicles in both directions on the stretch from the 15th to the 32nd kilometre of the highway. According to him, drivers should take this information into account when planning their route.

Full closure of a section of the M-06

As Beloshitsky explained, this is a two-way closure: no vehicle of any kind is being allowed through on the specified section of the Kyiv–Chop road. This means that the usual transit corridor between Kyiv and the western regions is temporarily unavailable, and drivers are forced to look for alternative routes. The Patrol Police published a corresponding warning, urging people not to head onto the closed section and to follow the instructions given on site.

Fire in the Bucha district

The cause of the restrictions was an enemy attack on the Bucha district. Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration, Tymur Tkachenko, reported that as a result of the strike, warehouse facilities are on fire, and the fire is accompanied by explosions. Emergency services are working at the scene: rescuers are dealing with the aftermath of the attack and trying to contain the blaze. Tkachenko urged residents of the district not to approach the scene and to strictly follow the instructions of the emergency services. Information on casualties and the scale of the damage, he said, is being clarified.

Restrictions on detour routes

In addition to the main closure, due to the situation on the Kyiv–Chop highway, the movement of all vehicles is partially restricted on Beresteiskyi Avenue and the Big Ring Road in the direction of the city of Zhytomyr. Beloshitsky noted that traffic on these sections is resumed periodically as far as possible, i.e. vehicles are being let through in waves depending on the operational situation. This creates additional difficulties for those trying to bypass the closed section, so the police recommend checking the road situation in advance.

Context: a series of attacks on Kyiv and the region

The events are taking place against the backdrop of intense strikes on the capital and the Kyiv region: over the past two days, according to the figures cited in the statement, Russian occupiers carried out 38 attacks. The day before, air-raid alerts were declared 13 times in Kyiv, and on 29 August — already 8 times. Separately, there are reports of strikes on "Nova Poshta" warehouse facilities in the Bilohorodka hromada, where, after the first hit, the occupiers attacked the same location two more times while the fire was being extinguished. According to data for the current day, strikes were carried out on Ukraine with seven S8000 "Bandel" missiles and 96 strike drones, more than 70 of which were jet-powered.
