The city is preparing for its anniversary, and this year's Kyiv Day celebration, taking place on May 30 and 31, promises to be a true immersion into history. Instead of standard sightseeing tours, Kyiv residents and guests of the capital are offered routes with exclusive access to sites usually hidden from tourists' eyes.
The author and host of these unique programs is Roman Malenkov, head of the "Ancient Kyiv" reserve. This time, he will personally guide guests through secret corridors and closed zones of two iconic monasteries.
Secrets of the Golden-Domed St. Michael's Monastery
The first route starts at 11:00 at the entrance to the cathedral of the Golden-Domed St. Michael's Monastery. This is not just a view of the facades. The program includes a visit to the unique museum space "The Gate Church and Kyiv of the 10th–13th Centuries," where you can see what the capital looked like during its heyday. The climax of the tour will be a descent into the huge ancient monastery cellars — a place rarely accessible to the general public.
Premiere on Florovska Hill
The second route, starting at 14:30, will be a real novelty. For the first time in the history of the reserve, tourists will be granted access to the Florovskiy Monastery. The meeting will take place at the entrance (6/8 Florovska St.). Participants will see four churches and get the opportunity to climb the bell tower, which is closed to regular visitors. Researchers have also prepared a special bonus for those who decide to take this path.
How to join the tours
Organizers are betting on the accessibility of culture. Both tours on the holiday days will be completely free. Registration is not required — just come at the specified time and place. The events are organized by the reserve in collaboration with the public organization "Ukraine Incognita".
In addition to historical tours, a modern exhibition is actively developing in the city. Thus, on May 26, a memorandum was signed on the creation of a museum of modern military technologies, which will become an important milestone for the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.
