Large-scale search and rescue operations continue in Kyiv following a massive overnight strike on the capital. In the Podilskyi district, rescuers recovered another body from the rubble. Thus, the total number of fatalities resulting from the attack has reached 15.
This information was confirmed by the State Emergency Service (SES) and Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv City Military Administration. According to the latest data, the body of a woman has been debricked from the rubble of apartment buildings in the Podilskyi district.
Scale of the Tragedy and Casualties
The situation remains critical. As of Tuesday morning, 56 people were injured in the shelling, including seven children. Rescue operations are underway at two locations — in the Podilskyi and Darnytskyi districts, which suffered the most severe damage.
Particular concern is caused by the situation in the Vyzhneve microdistrict, where the evacuation of residents continues. People are forced to leave their homes due to the risk of secondary detonations and the unstable condition of building structures.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha reported the tragic loss of an entire family killed during the overnight attack.
Failure of Air Defense and Statements from Both Sides
On the night of Tuesday, the Ukrainian air defense system proved powerless against the ballistic missile strike. As it became known, the air defense failed to shoot down any of the missiles, which was a consequence of the acute shortage of interceptor missiles for Patriot anti-aircraft systems.
At the same time, the Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the strike was carried out exclusively against military targets. However, the facts speak otherwise: Russian missiles hit residential areas, turning apartment buildings into ruins and taking the lives of civilians.
