On Tuesday morning, October 20, Kyiv restored train traffic on the metro's red line between Akademmistechko and Lisova stations. According to Kyiv Metro, trains are running on this section once again, and Lisova station has resumed normal operations. The restoration of service is the result of hours of work by repair and specialized crews who cleared the aftermath of a massive strike on the capital on the night of October 19.

What is Open and What Remains Closed

Despite the resumption of service on the section, Chernihivska station, located between Akademmistechko and Lisova, remains closed to passenger traffic. Trains pass through it without stopping. The Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA) emphasized that the resumption of the station's operation will be announced additionally and urged passengers to rely on official updates. Thus, the red line is operating, but with a temporary exception of one station, which inevitably affects routes and travel times for some passengers.

Aftermath of the Night Shelling

On the night of October 19, Russia launched a massive ballistic missile strike on Kyiv. As a result of the attack, Chernihivska metro station sustained damage: stained-glass windows were destroyed, and the station's platform and facade were damaged. In addition to structural elements, critical traffic infrastructure elements were hit during the shelling—tracks, the contact rail, as well as the power supply and traffic control systems. It was the combination of these damages that required halting traffic on the section and conducting large-scale repair work.

Work of Repair Crews

According to Kyiv Metro, more than 70 specialists from various specialized services worked simultaneously on the damaged section. Their task was to eliminate the consequences of the shelling as quickly as possible and return the red line to its usual operating mode. The agency thanked the workers who made maximum efforts to restore traffic as soon as possible. Photographs from the scene show the aftermath of strikes on infrastructure and active work by personnel in high-visibility vests among damaged tracks and structures.

Context: Metro Service Disruptions

The restoration of traffic on the red line comes against the backdrop of a series of incidents that affected the capital's metro operations in October. Earlier, on October 8, an emergency power outage occurred in Kyiv due to a Russian attack, temporarily suspending electric transport and metro operations. Certain sources also recorded increased train waiting times on individual lines following incidents. The restoration of traffic between Akademmistechko and Lisova is another stage in returning the system to standard operations, although full normalization across all stations on the red line has not yet been achieved.

The situation at Chernihivska station remains the main focus of attention: it is the pace of restoring its infrastructure and power supply systems that will determine when the red line metro will operate at full capacity. Official announcements regarding the resumption of the station's operation are expected from the KCSA and Kyiv Metro.
