It would seem that under the conditions of ongoing wartime, the level of comfort in a metropolis should tend towards zero. However, sociology often challenges common sense. A fresh poll conducted for Kyiv Day revealed a surprising trend: residents of the capital rate the quality of life here higher than in peacetime 2021.

The numbers speak for themselves: 82% of respondents consider Kyiv comfortable for living. For comparison, in August 2021, this figure was only 75%. The capital continues to attract people, offering what is difficult to find in other regions.

Business, leisure, and work as the main drivers

What exactly makes people stay and feel confident? The main factor became employment opportunities. Kyiv residents rated this aspect at 7.8 out of 10. The capital remains the economic locomotive of the country, where it is easiest to find a decent job and build a career.

In second place are opportunities for leisure and recreation (7.5 points). Despite the anxieties, city life is bustling: cafes, parks, and cultural venues are operating. The third most significant factor was named chances for success (7 points). People believe that it is here that their ambitions can be realized.

The shadow of war and growing optimism

However, there is also the other side of the coin. The lowest rating, only 4.4 points, was received by a critically important parameter — safety. This is natural: sirens and air raid alerts remain part of everyday life. Kyiv residents also skeptically assess conditions for doing business (5.6 points), which speaks to persisting economic difficulties.

Despite the caution, the degree of optimism is growing. If recently only a quarter of city dwellers believed in the correctness of the country's development vector, now there are almost a third. This indicates that Kyiv residents have adapted to the new realities and are finding points of support in them.
