The Head of the Patrol Police Department, Oleksiy Beloshitsky, announced the introduction of temporary road traffic restrictions in Kyiv during the period from August 23 to 25, 2026. According to him, the measures are related to the conduct of security operations involving foreign delegations. He reported this in his Telegram channel, as cited by RBC-Ukraine. The restrictions will affect both the central streets of the capital and a number of adjacent districts.

Standard security operations and their impact on traffic

As Beloshitsky clarified, the restrictions are of a temporary nature and are introduced exclusively for the duration of the security operations. The Patrol Police is appealing to Kyiv residents and visitors to the city, asking them to treat the introduced measures with understanding and to take them into account in advance when planning their routes. According to RBC-Ukraine, the specific list of closed-off sections, as stated in the Head of the Department's message, covers the key traffic arteries in the center of the capital.

Confirmation from the State Protection Service

Earlier, on August 21, the State Protection Service of Ukraine also confirmed the introduction of temporary road traffic restrictions in Kyiv. However, the State Protection Service's message indicated a slightly different time frame — from August 22 to 25. The list of sections mentioned in the protection service's statement matches those named by Beloshitsky, which indicates the coordination of actions between the two agencies within a single security plan.

Contradictory data

There is a minor discrepancy in the start dates of the restrictions between the official statements of the two agencies. Oleksiy Beloshitsky, in his address to the city's residents, indicates the period of "August 23–25, 2026," while the State Protection Service of Ukraine had previously reported restrictions "from August 22 to 25." The one-day difference may be related to the fact that the preparation and deployment of security assets begins on the eve of the main event, or to a difference in the wording of "introduction of the regime" and "the actual start of restrictions." In any case, for drivers the relevant period is the entire span from August 22 to 25, and it is precisely on these days that alternative routes should be planned.

Additional restrictions on the Metro Bridge

In addition to the central restrictions, another temporary regime is in effect in Kyiv: from August 21 and until the second half of the day on August 24, vehicle traffic is partially restricted on the Metro Bridge. The restrictions concern the direction from the right bank of the Dnieper to the left — toward the "Hydropark" metro station. This means that during the specified period, crossing the Dnieper along this route will be difficult, and drivers are advised to use alternative bridges or public transport.

Recommendations for drivers and passengers

Given the totality of all the measures introduced — restrictions in the center, on certain avenues, and on the Metro Bridge — increased congestion on the remaining free road sections is expected in Kyiv during the period from August 22 to 25, 2026. The Patrol Police recommends planning routes in advance, where possible shifting trips to public transport, and monitoring operational messages in the official channels of law enforcement agencies. All restrictions are of a temporary nature and will be lifted upon the completion of the security operations.
