Moscow has officially stated its unwillingness to agree to a ceasefire along the front lines. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during a joint press conference with Mozambique's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maria Lukash, made it clear that the Kremlin intends to achieve all the goals set within the framework of the so-called special military operation.
Conflict Goals Remain Unchanged
Lavrov referred to Vladimir Putin's recent speech at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, held in June 2024. It was there that the key conditions under which Russia is willing to discuss a cessation of hostilities were formulated. According to the Russian minister, the president clearly confirmed that the country will continue military operations until these goals are fully achieved.
Kremlin's Demands to Kyiv
According to previously stated conditions, Russia demands from Ukraine:
- withdrawal of Ukrainian troops from the entire territory of the Donetsk, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, and Kherson regions;
- recognition of these regions and Crimea as Russian;
- renunciation of joining NATO;
- the so-called "demilitarization" and "denazification" of Ukraine.
Putin previously stated that after these conditions are met, he would "immediately" order a ceasefire. However, at the moment, Kyiv is not demonstrating a willingness to make such concessions.
International Reaction and New Threats
Despite the peace efforts of US President Donald Trump, the Kremlin remains determined to continue the war. This is confirmed by recent statements from Russian officials. Meanwhile, Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski warned of new threats to Europe from Russia. This refers to possible provocations and sabotage against European countries.
Thus, the situation on the front remains tense, and the prospects for a peaceful settlement currently look hazy. Russia continues to insist on its conditions, which Kyiv considers unacceptable.
