Former three-division world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko has officially cemented his return to boxing: the Ukrainian has signed a multi-year co-promotional agreement with Top Rank, which will be implemented in partnership with his own promotional structure, Loma Power Promotions. According to the boxer himself, he was certain his professional career was over, but changed his mind and is now ready for big fights once again. The signing of the contract is a formal confirmation that Lomachenko is returning to top-level boxing not just for one or two bouts, but for the long term.
From “End of Career” to a New Start
Commenting on the deal, Lomachenko openly admitted that at one point he considered his comeback impossible. “The ways of the Lord are unfathomable. I thought I would never enter the ring as a boxer again. But our Lord Jesus Christ had other plans for me. I am happy to live the boxing life again. I am grateful to everyone who has become part of this journey once more,” the Ukrainian stated. These words emphasize that his decision to continue his career was not a routine step, but a reconsideration of a previously finalized decision to retire.
Who Brought the Boxer Back into the Game
Lomachenko specifically highlighted the role of Egis Klimas, who, according to him, “never for a moment stopped believing that we would return to the ring.” The boxer emphasized that Klimas put in immense effort to get him back in the game. Thus, Lomachenko links his return to boxing to the specific efforts of his manager, who maintained faith in the continuation of his career even during the period when the athlete himself considered it finished.
Plans: Super Featherweight and Undisputed Status
According to Top Rank, Lomachenko will compete in the super featherweight division and intends to take on the biggest fights in this category. His return to the ring is scheduled for early 2027. Top Rank head Bob Arum stated that Lomachenko remains one of the most talented fighters he has ever worked with, and noted that the Ukrainian is aiming to achieve the status of undisputed world champion. The agreement provides for collaboration between Top Rank and the new company Loma Power Promotions; notably, Top Rank has supported the boxer's career since his professional debut in 2013.
Context: The Path to Return
As a reminder, in June 2025, Lomachenko announced his retirement from professional boxing. He last stepped into the ring in May 2024, when he defeated George Kambosos via stoppage to capture the IBF world title at lightweight. The Ukrainian's professional record stands at 18 wins, three losses, and 12 knockouts; over the course of his career, he has become a world champion in three weight classes. It was previously reported that Oleksandr Usyk supported Lomachenko's return to the ring, which added public resonance to this new phase of his career.
