In the very heart of London, on Oxford Street, large-scale Christmas illuminations featuring a Harry Potter universe theme are currently in preparation. According to organizers, the festive decorations and associated entertainment have been designed specifically to mark the release of the first season of the new series based on the legendary franchise and the opening of a new flagship store. The project is a joint initiative by the streaming platform HBO Max and the New West End Company, which manages the retail district in West London.
Illuminations and Festive Program
According to the developers' design, the themed decorations will span the entire street: garlands and hanging decorative elements will be strung along Oxford Street, while themed attractions and special events will open during the festive season. The exact date for turning on the festive lights, the attractions schedule, and the complete celebration program have not yet been announced at the time of publication, though organizers emphasize that location preparations are already underway.
Flagship Store on Oxford Street
The new Harry Potter universe store will be located at 134–140 Oxford Street, in one of the busiest retail districts of the English capital. The total area of the venue will be 21,000 square feet (approximately 1,900 square meters), and the space will be split across two floors. The store's grand opening is scheduled for November 4.
Design and Atmosphere: From Diagon Alley to The Leaky Cauldron
The store's visual concept is inspired by one of the key locations from the films — Diagon Alley. Inside, visitors can expect recognizable details, photo zones, and large-scale installations: a Ukrainian Ironbelly dragon will tower above the area styled after Gringotts Wizarding Bank, and a full-size replica of the triple-decker Knight Bus will be on display. For relaxation and dining, a Leaky Cauldron-style pub area will offer themed drinks and dishes.
Souvenirs and Assortment
In the retail section of the flagship, the product range covers a wide variety of items: magic wands, Funko Pop figures, clothing, accessories, stationery, and other souvenirs aimed at both child and adult fans of the franchise.
Connection to the HBO Series
The festive decorations and the store opening coincide with the launch of the new Harry Potter series. The first episode of the first season will become available on HBO on Christmas Day — December 25. According to the creators, the series will consist of seven seasons—one for each book in the cycle—with the first season covering the events of the first installment, "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone". Thus, London's illuminations and flagship store become part of a unified festive cycle linking the series' release with the capital's Christmas season.
