A diagnosis that did not break the champion
The cause of the artist's death was a severe kidney disease, with which he fought for more than four years. In 2022, doctors diagnosed Nilsson with terminal kidney failure. The specialists' forecasts were extremely unflattering, but the actor did not give up. Thanks to regular dialysis, which he underwent three times a week, and colossal perseverance, Kjell lived significantly longer than the medical community expected.
The situation was exacerbated by serious vascular problems. Because of this, a kidney transplant was impossible, and the condition of his legs required surgical intervention. Nilsson underwent several complex operations and consciously refused amputation of his limbs. Relatives note that it was precisely his discipline and training that allowed him to maintain the ability to move, despite excruciating pain and limitations.

Among close friends and colleagues, the actor was called a "walking miracle." The family, in their memories, emphasizes that this miracle was not supernatural, but the result of human determination. "He proved that the experts were wrong when he became strong enough to simply walk to the end of the corridor," the relatives write on Facebook. They are convinced that his self-belief and iron will allowed him to delay the inevitable for several years.
Last Sunday, after long deliberation, Kjell Nilsson made the decision to regain control over his body and pain by stopping dialysis. On July 2, he peacefully passed away in his sleep surrounded by his sons. The days preceding his death were filled with joy, gratitude, and peace.
