On June 16, 2026, the Halytskyi District Court of Lviv decided to extend the preventive measure against Vyacheslav Zinchenko, accused of murdering the well-known Ukrainian public figure and former People's Deputy Irina Farion. The suspect will remain in custody without the right to post bail for another 60 days — until August 15, 2026, inclusive.
Court proceedings
During the hearing, the prosecution insisted on maintaining the strictest form of restriction of freedom. The representatives of the prosecution argued their position by stating that the risks associated with the possible evasion of the suspect from the investigation have not disappeared. In particular, the prosecutors pointed out the likelihood of pressure on witnesses or the destruction of evidence, among which the weapon of the crime — a pistol — has still not been found.
The defense, however, filed a motion to change the preventive measure to round-the-clock house arrest with the use of an electronic bracelet. Zinchenko's lawyer, Igor Sulima, emphasized that his client does not admit his guilt and considers the charges unfounded.
Court decision
The court fully satisfied the motion of the prosecution. The extension of the detention term is due to the ongoing pre-trial investigation, within the framework of which complex forensic and forensic-medical examinations are being conducted.

Irina Farion was fatally wounded on July 19, 2024, near her home in Lviv. A few days after the incident, 18-year-old Vyacheslav Zinchenko, a native of Dnipro, was detained and became the main suspect in this high-profile crime.
