During an official meeting in Paris, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded French President Emmanuel Macron one of the country's highest state honors — the Order of Liberty. This recognition symbolizes the strengthening of strategic partnership between the two nations amidst the ongoing conflict.

Personal Gratitude for a Strategic Alliance

According to RBC-Ukraine, citing a statement by the Ukrainian president, the decision to award Macron was driven by his personal efforts in supporting Kyiv. Zelenskyy emphasized that relations between the two countries have reached a truly strategic level precisely due to the French leader's stance.

"Today, I thanked Emmanuel for his help and support over these years and awarded the President, a true friend of Ukraine, with the Order of Liberty," stated the head of the Ukrainian state. The award was presented against the backdrop of a solemn ceremony involving an honor guard, underscoring the high status of the event.

Discussion of Security Priorities

During the visit, the leaders of the two countries discussed key issues facing Ukraine. The central item on the agenda was the preparation for the meeting of the "Anti-Ballistic Coalition" and the "Coalition of the Willing." Both sides analyzed the current situation on the front lines and Ukraine's needs for protecting civilians from Russian attacks.

Particular emphasis was placed on the need to strengthen air defense. Zelenskyy noted that France possesses the technologies and capabilities critical for accelerating the development of Ukraine's air defense system. "It is important to strengthen Ukraine, bolster our air defense, and accelerate our European anti-ballistic efforts," the president emphasized.

What is the Order of Liberty?

The Order of Liberty was established in 2008 and is the country's highest award for outstanding merits in affirming sovereignty, independence, and the democratic development of the state. The award is also given for defending constitutional human rights. Previously, it has been awarded to only a few foreign leaders for their exceptional contribution to supporting Ukraine.

Paris Meeting and Future Plans

On the eve of Bastille Day, a large-scale meeting of leaders from the "Coalition of the Willing" will take place in Paris. Participants will gather to focus on strengthening Ukraine's air defense. Specifically, the creation of a comprehensive missile defense system will be discussed, as well as details of the US plan for licensed production of Patriot missiles directly on Ukrainian territory.
