On Tuesday, October 20, and Wednesday, October 21, the matches of the 3rd matchday of the UEFA Champions League main stage will take place. On Tuesday, nine matches will be played: traditionally, two of them will start at 19:45, and the rest at 22:00. On Wednesday, October 21, another nine matches will be held. The central events of the week will be the Parisian clash between PSG and Barcelona, Shakhtar Donetsk's away trip to Milan to face Inter, as well as the duels Liverpool vs Villarreal, Manchester City vs AEK, Bayern vs Arsenal, and Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig.

Central Match: PSG vs Barcelona

The main event of the evening in Paris will be the head-to-head meeting of two teams that enter after two matchdays with a 100% record and six points each. The Parisians have scored 10 goals and conceded three, while the Catalans have netted nine times and conceded just two goals. In the second matchday, PSG secured a bright victory over Manchester City with a score of 4:2, and Barcelona crushed Galatasaray 4:1. Thus, the direct encounter in Paris will be the first truly serious test for both teams in this stage.

Liverpool vs Villarreal and Manchester City vs AEK

Another interesting duel will be the match between Liverpool and Villarreal. The English side started with a win over Atletico Madrid (2:1), and in the second matchday crushed LASK (6:3). The Spaniards began the tournament with a defeat to Borussia Dortmund (2:3), after which they defeated Napoli (3:1). The teams already met in the Champions League semi-finals of the 2021/22 season, when Liverpool won both matches and reached the final; in their last four head-to-head encounters, the English side has claimed three victories. It is also worth noting Manchester City's match against AEK: the English started with a win over Porto (2:0), but lost to PSG (2:4) in the second matchday, whereas the Greek club lost both matches — 0:1 to LASK and 1:3 to Shakhtar. For Enzo Maresca's team, the home game will be an opportunity to return to winning ways; Oleksandr Zubkov plays for AEK.

Shakhtar vs Inter: A Tough Away Trip to Milan

Ukrainian fans will be most eagerly awaiting the match of Shakhtar, who will play away against Inter on Wednesday, October 21. After two matchdays, Arda Turan's Donetsk club has four points: the team drew with PSV (1:1) and then defeated AEK (3:1). Inter, conversely, lost both of their matches — 1:2 to Real Madrid and 3:4 to Club Brugge. The history of head-to-head encounters is in favor of the Italians: the teams have met seven times in European competitions, with Inter winning three times and four matches ending in draws. Away matches in Milan have been especially unsuccessful for Shakhtar — the painful 0:5 defeat in the 2020 Europa League semi-final is well remembered by fans.

Bayern vs Arsenal and Real Madrid vs RB Leipzig

In Munich, Bayern will host Arsenal. The German club has played exclusively against Norwegian teams in this campaign so far: in the first matchday, they crushed Bodo/Glimt 5:0, and in the second, they drew 3:3 with Viking. The Londoners, in turn, defeated Napoli (1:0) and Lille (3:0). The head-to-head encounter has a rich history, and the last matches between the teams took place in the 2025/26 season; this time the Müncheners will host the Londoners at the Allianz Arena. Another match worth highlighting is Real Madrid against RB Leipzig. The Madrid side won both starting matches, defeating Inter (2:1) and Roma (4:3). Leipzig recovered from a 1:4 defeat against Como with a 1:0 win over PSV. The teams have met four times in the Champions League: Real Madrid has two wins, Leipzig has one, and another match ended in a draw; the clubs last played in the playoffs of the 2023/24 season. Meanwhile, Leipzig approaches the match against the backdrop of a painful 6:1 defeat in the Bundesliga against Bayern.
