Madrid's Real Madrid has officially announced a major transfer for the summer off-season. The ranks of the "Royal Club" have been bolstered by Marc Cucurella, the left-back for London's Chelsea and the Spanish national team. The 27-year-old footballer, known for his striking appearance and tenacious character, has become one of the team's first significant acquisitions following the appointment of José Mourinho.

Deal details and contract

According to information published on the official website of the Madrid club, Cucurella has signed a long-term agreement for six seasons. The player's contract will be valid until June 30, 2032. According to authoritative insider Fabrizio Romano, the transfer cost the "whites" 55 million euros. Additionally, London's Chelsea could receive another 5 million euros in the form of various bonuses.

The path to the Madrid giant

Interestingly, Cucurella is a product of Barcelona's youth academy, Real Madrid's main rival. He joined the Catalan structure as a teenager, but only played one match for the first team in the Copa del Rey. Before moving to England, the defender performed successfully for Eibar and Getafe. In the Premier League, he first shone at Brighton, and then in August 2022, he moved to Chelsea for 65 million euros.

In the past 2025/26 season, Cucurella was an indispensable player in the Londoners' starting lineup. He played 50 matches in all competitions, recording 1 goal and 4 assists to his credit. In the battle for the defender's signature, Real Madrid also faced Barcelona, which actively tried to bring the footballer back to La Liga this summer.

Achievements with the national team and the World Cup

On the international stage, Cucurella also demonstrates a high level. As part of the Spanish national team, he became the European champion in 2024 and the silver medalist of the 2024/25 Nations League. In total, he has 23 matches and one goal to his credit in the jersey of the "Furia Roja".

Currently, the star newcomer of Real Madrid is with the Spanish national team at the 2026 World Cup. The Spaniards will play their first match at the Mundial today, June 15, against the Cape Verde team. The match will start at 19:00 Kyiv time.
