On the evening of July 20, Sumy was subjected to a series of attacks by Russian forces. According to local authorities, the strikes hit residential areas and commercial facilities, resulting in casualties and large-scale fires.
Children injured
Oleg Hryhorov, head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, reported that one of the strikes was carried out by a drone near a multi-story building. As a result of the incident, six people were injured, including four children.
Two injured people are currently in hospitals: an 8-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl. Preliminary data suggests their injuries are not life-threatening. Medical assistance was provided on-site to the other victims without the need for hospitalization.
Fire at a shopping center
The attack was not limited to a single strike. Two more hits followed in the same area of the city. One of them triggered a massive fire at a shopping center. Information on possible casualties resulting from the fire is currently being verified.
Local media, relying on visual data and eyewitness accounts, speculate that the fire engulfed a hypermarket of the "Epicentr" chain. However, official confirmation of this information from authorities or retail representatives has not yet been received.
The situation in the city remains tense. Rescue services continue to work at the scene of the incidents, containing fires and assisting the injured.
