The night of June 18 marked a large-scale attack by the Armed Forces of Ukraine on key targets in the Russian capital and occupied territories. According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, strikes were carried out on the Moscow Oil Refinery (MOR), a fuel depot, and a railway bridge over the North Crimean Canal.
Fire in Kapotnya: Strike on Fuel Infrastructure
The main target of the operation was the Moscow Oil Refinery, located in the Kapotnya district, just 15 kilometers from the Kremlin. The General Staff confirmed a hit on the facility and the outbreak of a massive fire. At least five fire hotspots were recorded on the plant's territory. According to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the enterprise processes more than 12 million tons of oil annually and plays a critical role in supplying fuel to the Russian army.
In addition to the refinery, a facility used for storing and transshipping fuel and lubricants was hit. The General Staff emphasizes that these resources are used to support the military and transport infrastructure of the aggressor state.
Paralysis of Capital Aviation and Alarm in Moscow
On the night of June 18 and in the morning, an alarm was declared in Moscow due to an attack by Ukrainian drones. In response to the threat in the air, Russian authorities implemented "Plan Carpet" (Plan Kover). This led to a complete shutdown of all capital airports: "Vnukovo", "Domodedovo", "Zhukovsky", and "Sheremetyevo".
Dozens of videos shot by eyewitnesses appeared on social media. The footage shows the aftermath of strikes on the plant's tanks and huge flames engulfing the facility's territory.
Strikes on the Front Line and Strategic Targets
The operation was not limited to Moscow alone. A Russian military command post was hit in the Selydove area. The General Staff also released the results of post-strike reconnaissance on previously attacked targets, confirming their use for the logistics of occupation forces.
Kyiv's Response
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the events, stating the need to end the conflict. "It is time to end this war," noted the head of state, emphasizing the strategic importance of strikes on the enemy's rear targets.
