Matvey Ponomarenko, forward for Kyiv Dynamo and the Ukraine national team, has signed a new long-term agreement with his home club. The updated contract for the 20-year-old striker is set for five years. This was reported by Sport RBC.UA, citing the official Dynamo website.
Matvey Ponomarenko has been part of the capital club's structure since he was seven years old. Thanks to his high level of scoring at the youth level, the forward made his debut for the senior team and firmly established himself in the starting lineup last season.
Two individual awards for the season
The striker not only entered the elite of Ukrainian football but also became one of the brightest players of the campaign. By the end of the season, he won two individual awards at once: the top scorer of the Ukrainian Premier League and the best young player of the championship.
Call-up to the national team
His brilliant performance on the domestic stage opened the door for Matvey to the Ukraine national team. The player received his first call-up to the 'blue and yellows' camp and has already scored an important goal in the World Cup 2026 qualifying playoff match against the Sweden national team.
Earlier, Dynamo also announced the transfer of a former Ukraine national team player. Extending Ponomarenko's contract was an important step for the club, solidifying the status of the young talent as a key player for the coming years.
