Ukrainian singer Tonia Matvienko, in an open interview with Slava Demyan, which the editorial team noted with reference to Styler (an RBC-Ukraine project), spoke candidly about the most difficult period of her life — the time following the passing of her mother, Nina Matvienko. According to the artist, the grief she experienced caused such intense stress that not only her emotional state but also her long-term relationship with her husband, musician Arsen Mirzoyan, was put at risk. Matvienko admitted that at that moment she felt a sense of detachment even from her own children and was on the verge of a breakup with her partner.

The Loss of Her Mother and "Enormous Stress"

As a reminder, Nina Matvienko passed away on October 8, 2023, at the age of 75. In the conversation with Demyan, her daughter recalled how profoundly this event affected her psychological state. "It was enormous stress. It was such a big problem inside me," Matvienko said. According to her, the grief touched her so deeply that she began to feel alienated not only from her loved ones but, what especially frightened the singer, from her own children — she felt that she had temporarily "lost the ability to love" them the way she used to.

The Crisis in Her Relationship with Arsen Mirzoyan

The most painful consequence of this state was a crisis in the marriage. Matvienko did not hide that the grief following her mother's death directly affected her relationship with Arsen Mirzoyan: the couple was on the verge of a breakup. The singer described this period as a time when it was extremely difficult for her to maintain closeness and emotional connection with her husband, and the internal stress created a "very big problem" within herself. It was precisely at this moment, she said, that the relationship could have been completely destroyed.

The Role of Loved Ones in Recovery

According to Matvienko's admission, two factors helped her escape this difficult state — time and the support of her closest people. "It takes time and the support of my closest people, for them to hold me up. They held me up and did not leave me in trouble. And that is exactly what they did," the singer shared. She emphasized that it was precisely the circle of people who did not step back at the most difficult moment that allowed her to gradually recover and preserve what truly matters to her. The family went through a tough period, but, according to Matvienko, her loved ones fulfilled the role of a support system.

Debunking Rumors About Multiple Breakups

Separately, Matvienko commented on the persistent rumors in the media space that she and Arsen Mirzoyan had supposedly broken up multiple times. The singer categorically refuted this version: "They still say we are not together. Although we have never broken up, not even once. Well, there were quarrels, but we did not break up." Thus, according to her, the public narrative about "divorces" does not correspond to reality — there were conflicts, but no actual breakups.

Contradictory Data

Here it is worth honestly noting the discrepancy between the public perception and the position of the subject herself. On the one hand, in open sources and discussions, the version that Matvienko and Mirzoyan "broke up multiple times" is consistently mentioned, meaning their relationship supposedly went through several cycles of separation and reconciliation. On the other hand, the singer herself states on air that they "have never broken up, not even once," and there were only quarrels. Additional complexity in interpretation is added by another of her statements: when asked whether their marriage could ever end, Matvienko answered, "Of course." That is, on the one hand, she asserts the unbreakability of the relationship, while on the other — she does not rule out its possible end in the future. Both viewpoints are presented in the form in which they appear in the source, without any attempt to reconcile them.

Trust and Confidence in Her Partner

Despite the acknowledgment that the marriage could potentially end, Matvienko emphasized that at the present moment she trusts her husband and has no reason for serious worries about other women. "Personally, Arsen has never given me a reason to worry so much. I am confident in my husband," she said. Thus, in the overall balance of her account, the crisis after her mother's death appears as an overcome stage: the stress was "enormous," the relationship was on the brink, but thanks to time and the support of loved ones, the singer recovered and preserved the marriage, which, according to her, was never broken.
