Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, did not resort to diplomatic euphemisms when commenting on the incident involving a drone falling into Romanian territory. His position is extremely firm: European Union countries must immediately stop making public statements on this matter, as their silence is the only thing that can save them from an escalation of the conflict.
Europe as an Accomplice in the War
In his statement, Medvedev clearly outlined Moscow's position: Brussels and its allies are not observers but direct participants in hostilities against Russia. According to the politician, European drones, spare parts for them, weapons, and intelligence are used daily to attack Russian territory. This is why, in Medvedev's opinion, any Western complaints about Russia's actions appear hypocritical.
The particular sharpness of the politician's words is given by the context of recent events. Medvedev directly linked the incident in Romania with the terrorist act in Starobelsk, placing responsibility for such actions on the leaders of Western countries. In his rhetoric, the names of Ursula von der Leyen, Charles Michel, Emmanuel Macron, and Keir Starmer appear, whom he called directly responsible for provocations.
Diplomatic Crisis in Romania
The situation around Romania is developing rapidly. After a drone crashed into a residential building in the city of Galati, causing an explosion and fire, the country's president, Nicolae Ciucă, made an unprecedented decision. Romanian authorities declared the Russian General Consul persona non grata and closed the consulate in Constanța.
In response to these actions, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, warned that Moscow would not remain in debt and retaliatory measures would follow immediately. The incident, in which a woman and a teenager were injured, became the reason for Bucharest to summon the Russian ambassador for explanations, effectively accusing Russia of attacking its territory.
Logic of Escalation
The rhetoric of Dmitry Medvedev indicates that Russia is ready to perceive any actions of NATO countries, including Romania, as hostile. The call to 'shut up' sounds not just as an emotional reaction, but as a warning: further public debate may be perceived as a continuation of participation in the war, which will entail corresponding consequences.
