A close friend of the Duchess of Sussex, Kelly McCue Ziffen, became the first of Meghan Markle's California acquaintances to visit her after the family moved to the United Kingdom. On September 23, Ziffen posted a series of personal photos on Instagram capturing moments of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's family holiday, their daughter Lilibet, and meetings with long-time friends. The images essentially became the first public "glimpse from the inside" of the couple's new life after six years of living in the US.
A visit from a friend from California
In the published photos, Meghan is seen holding her friend's young son Jack during a cosy lunch in a pub, while Prince Harry plays with the baby right on the floor. Ziffen captioned the post with warm words: "Having a wonderful time. There's something special about seeing this magical place together with my best friend and bringing my lovely Jack along on the adventure." She also noted that it was a pleasure to witness a new chapter in Meghan's life and to share her son's first impressions of the trip with her.
Family holiday and meetings with friends
One of the images captures the company of Meghan, Kelly and the couple's long-time friend Marcus Anderson: the three played mahjong in the garden and spent time over glasses of wine. In another photo, five-year-old Princess Lilibet is seen spending time with little Jack. The Duchess's friend added: "Family time — exactly what the soul needed. And also mashed potatoes and fish and chips," emphasising the relaxed atmosphere of the holiday.
A new chapter in the UK
The family of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex arrived in England on 26 August, marking the beginning of a new period after six years of life in the US. Seven-year-old Prince Archie and five-year-old Lilibet started attending a new British school this month. According to sources, one of the key reasons for Harry's return was the desire for the children to better know the country in which he grew up and to understand the origins of their family. For Meghan, it is important that the children can get to know both of their parents' worlds.
Plans for the future
Since the move, the family has already been showing glimpses of their new life: Meghan posted a video of the children in the countryside, and Harry has again been regularly appearing at charity events. According to available information, the couple plans to live in the UK for a long period, however there is no talk of returning to carrying out official royal duties. Thus, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex continue to build their own format of life outside the bounds of palace protocol.
