German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that recent consultations among the leaders of the "G7" and US President Donald Trump have created the first real chance for ending the war in Ukraine. According to the head of the German government, the coordinated steps by the West are aimed at forcing Moscow to sit down at the negotiating table.

Unity of Positions: Europe and the US

The center of the discussion was the strategy for the further development of events. Merz confirmed that European leaders and the American president have agreed on two key directions: continuing support for Ukraine and simultaneously increasing pressure on Russia. The Chancellor expressed confidence that cooperation between the Old World and Washington within the framework of the peace process will become even closer.

Merz paid special attention to Donald Trump's position. According to the German politician, it is the words of the American leader that give grounds for optimism. "What gives us all grounds for confidence are the words of President Trump: Russia must end this war. And I believe this is a clear signal," Merz emphasized.

Economic Pressure as a Tool for Peace

During the negotiations, the question of introducing new sanctions against Russia was raised. Merz is convinced that the military path will not lead Moscow to victory, and it is economic pressure that can create conditions for achieving peace. In particular, measures designed to force the Russian side to enter into dialogue were discussed.

The situation around energy resources also remains in focus. Donald Trump hinted at a possible resumption of sanctions against Russian oil, which were previously suspended due to the conflict in the Middle East. This decision could become a serious factor affecting Russia's economic stability.

Zelensky and Trump Negotiations

An important role in shaping the new agenda was played by the meeting of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky with Donald Trump, which took place in the corridors of the G7 summit in France. Merz reported that, together with the Ukrainian leader, he appealed to the American president to support efforts in the negotiation process.

Zelensky announced a new meeting with Trump, scheduled for June 17. According to European politicians, this dialogue will become the next step in implementing a strategy aimed at stopping hostilities.
