Technology giant Meta is preparing to launch fundamentally new wearable devices. The company's arsenal will include a smart pendant with artificial intelligence support, as well as four new models of smart glasses, the release of which is scheduled before the end of the current year.
Personal AI Assistant Around the Neck
The development of a wearable gadget became a logical continuation of the company's strategy after acquiring the startup Limitless. It was this startup that previously created a device in the form of a microphone clip. Meta's new device will connect to a smartphone via Bluetooth and continuously record the sound environment around the user.
Testing of the secret pendant will begin in the coming months. The main task of the device is not just recording, but intelligent data processing. The gadget will create automatic text transcripts, form brief meeting summaries, and build a database of conversations. Users will be able to instantly find the necessary information in this database using the built-in AI.
Essentially, Meta aims to create a "personal super-intelligent system" that will accompany the owner throughout the day.
Expanding the Smart Glasses Lineup
In addition to the pendant, the company is preparing a major update to its glasses division. Meta's strategy is aimed at going beyond the successful but limited partnership with Ray-Ban and Oakley brands. According to internal documents, the release of new products will follow a clear schedule.
All new devices will run on the company's customized neural networks and the new consumer AI agent Hatch, which is currently in active development.
Financial Context and Monetization Plans
The aggressive expansion in the wearable electronics market is dictated by the need to correct the financial situation. The Reality Labs division, responsible for "hardware," is suffering huge losses. In 2025 alone, the department lost $19 billion.
Mark Zuckerberg has already told investors that the division will focus entirely on glasses and wearable devices to gradually become profitable. To monetize new technologies, Meta plans to launch a paid subscription called Wearables for Work for business clients, as well as commercialize the use of the Hatch AI agent.
The company's ambitious goal for the second half of 2026 is to sell 10 million wearable devices. This is planned to be achieved by expanding the sales geography and attracting large corporate clients.
