Meta held a closed presentation for a major update to its flagship video editor, Edits. The app, positioned as a key competitor to the popular CapCut, now features a full desktop version and an integrated virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence.
AI Integration and Instagram Analytics
The key novelty of Edits is its built-in AI module. Content creators no longer need to switch to third-party chatbots to find ideas: brainstorming now happens directly within the editing software.
The assistant is directly connected to the user's internal profile analytics on Instagram. The algorithm analyzes audience retention graphs (video-retention), view dynamics, and subscriber behavior. Based on this data, the system explains exactly which moments in a video cause viewers to scroll past and which ones hold their attention.
The bot doesn't just analyze the past; it also suggests ready-made ideas for future videos, selecting audio tracks that are currently trending. With this tool, Meta aims to keep bloggers within its ecosystem, competing with similar Inspiration panels in YouTube Studio and TikTok's algorithms.
Desktop Version and Cloud Synchronization
Until now, Edits existed exclusively in mobile versions for iOS and Android. The launch of a full desktop version aims to meet the needs of creators working with complex, multi-layered editing.
Developers emphasize that a larger screen allows for more precise control of the timeline, color correction, and working with complex animations. This solution will allow the tech giant to compete directly in the PC software market with CapCut, which has long implemented its desktop client.
An important aspect of the update is seamless cloud synchronization. A content creator can start cutting clips on a smartphone while on the go and finish detailed mixing and effect overlaying on a computer without losing progress or needing to transfer heavy files.
New Features and Testing
Some new features are already available to users. Edits now has a special Beta tab where developers will release experimental tools at early stages of creation, gathering feedback from the community to accelerate updates.
The analytics block has been significantly updated: detailed audience demographics and precise graphs of peak viewer activity throughout the day are now visible. There is now a function to search for topics in the Inspiration feed and a tool to create multiple variations of a single video. This allows for closed split-testing, evaluating different thumbnails or drafts before final publication.
According to Meta, videos edited in Edits have a 10% higher save rate and are reposted by users 2% more often. The AI assistant is currently in closed beta testing, and the PC version will be available to everyone in the near future.
