Meta has announced the implementation of a critical new feature designed to enhance the safety of underage users interacting with its own Meta AI chatbot. The new system aims to serve as an additional barrier against mental health risks for teenagers in the digital environment.
Emergency Alert Mechanism
The essence of the innovation lies in automatic dialogue monitoring. If an underage user touches upon topics of self-harm or suicide during a conversation with the artificial intelligence, the system immediately triggers a notification for parents. According to company representatives, a specialized artificial intelligence model was developed to ensure maximum accuracy and minimize false positives. This algorithm specializes in deep context analysis of dialogues and the identification of specific dangerous keywords.
Upon detecting signs of danger, the notification is sent directly to the parental control dashboard, allowing adults to react to the situation promptly.
Geography of Implementation and Availability
Currently, the feature is available for users of the Instagram Parental Supervision service in several key regions: the USA, the UK, Australia, and Canada. The company plans to scale the solution globally. By the end of the year, a phased rollout of the system is expected worldwide, including Uzbekistan. This will allow parents in these countries to gain additional tools to ensure the safety of their children's digital communication.
Content Restrictions for Teenagers
In addition to the alert system, Meta has tightened the rules for its AI's interaction with minors. Meta AI capabilities for this age group function in a restricted mode. The system is programmed to refuse to engage in dialogues on topics that may be dangerous or undesirable for teenagers.
