The era when social networks were completely free for everyone is coming to an end. Meta has officially announced the launch of paid subscriptions for its flagship applications — Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp. After months of closed testing, the company is implementing a model where unique functionality will be available only to those willing to pay. This is not just cosmetic improvements, but a fundamental change in the rules of the game in the digital environment.

New Reality: Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus, and WhatsApp Plus

The applications have received the "Plus" suffix in their names, symbolizing the transition to a premium level. The cost of entry into this exclusive club varies: subscriptions for Instagram and Facebook will cost $3.99 per month for each platform, while the enhanced version of the messenger, WhatsApp Plus, costs $2.99. Leaks and early screenshots that appeared back in March have now become an official reality for the general audience.

What Lies Behind the Fee? Key Subscription Features

Meta offers users a set of tools that change the very nature of interaction on social networks. Here is what subscribers get:

  • Invisibility Mode: The ability to view other people's stories (Stories) anonymously without appearing in the viewers' list. Ideal for those who value privacy.
  • Deep Analytics: Access to extended statistics, including searching within the viewers' list and information on who has re-watched content.
  • Time Control: The ability to extend the lifespan of disappearing stories beyond the standard 24 hours and create special "spotlight" stories.
  • Hidden Content: Publishing posts that will not appear in subscribers' main news feeds, allowing for the creation of closed clubs within the social network.
  • Exclusive Customization: Unique themes, exclusive ringtones, enhanced stickers, additional pinned chats in WhatsApp, and a special "super heart" reaction.

Meta One Brand and Paid Artificial Intelligence

All monetization experiments are united under the new brand Meta One. This ecosystem covers not only social networks but also business accounts, creator profiles, and, most importantly, artificial intelligence. The basic version of the Meta AI chatbot will remain free, but complex tasks will now be locked behind a paywall.

The company is introducing limits on the use of the "Thinking mode" and complex logical calculations. Generating large amounts of images and video clips within the apps will also become a paid service. In parallel, Meta is preparing new tariff plans for commercial and creator pages, integrating them into the updated Meta Verified verification system.
