The major tech giant Meta has begun a quiet launch of a new mobile application called Pocket. The utility, which allows users to create mini-games without the need to write code, is already available on the Google Play and App Store. However, the company has not yet made any official announcements about the release, limiting the geography of testing.

Reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi was the first to notice the appearance of the new product in the app stores. According to analytics data, the release on both platforms took place as early as June 29, but Meta chose a strategy of stealth deployment.

The revival of the Gizmo project

A technical analysis of the new application's code indicates that Pocket is a direct result of the acquisition of another well-known project. Earlier this year, Meta fully acquired the development team of the Gizmo startup — a platform that generated interactive content based on text prompts.

The connection between the old and new products is evident in the details:

  • Terminology. In the app description, Pocket officially calls itself a creative platform for creating and distributing "gizmos". This is exactly what the AI games were called in the original startup.
  • System name. In the code for the Google Play Store, the application identifier is written as com.facebook.gizmo, confirming the use of the acquired team's developments.

Soft launch strategy

An explanation appeared on Meta's official support page stating that the Pocket app is not yet available in all regions. The company is using the soft launch practice. This is a standard procedure for testing server load and gathering initial feedback on a limited number of markets before a global release.

The appearance of Pocket reflects Meta's overall strategy over the past year, aimed at the aggressive integration of generative artificial intelligence into all consumer services. From "masks" in social networks to independent creative utilities — the tech giant strives to integrate AI into the daily user experience.

Meta has not yet commented on the exact list of countries where the app is already working, as well as the dates of the global release.
