The era of unlimited free access to neural networks from tech giants is coming to an end. Meta Platforms has officially announced the launch of a paid subscription for its intelligent assistant, Meta AI. This strategic move aims to monetize the company's colossal investments in artificial intelligence development and create a sustainable business model.
Two Subscription Models: From Enthusiasts to Pros
The company offers users two access levels tailored to different needs. The basic tier, Meta One Plus, will cost $7.99 per month. It will be the ideal choice for those who actively use the chatbot for image generation, video content creation, or solving complex tasks requiring significant computing power.
For professionals and advanced users, there is the flagship plan Meta One Premium, costing $19.99 monthly. This tier guarantees expanded functionality and significantly increased usage limits, allowing users to work with AI without restrictions.
Launch Geography and the Future of Free Access
The new monetization will not be global immediately. Users in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia will be the first to get the opportunity to subscribe. Meta plans to scale the project to other markets in the future.
It is important to understand: the service will not become fully paid. The free version of Meta AI will remain, but strict limitations will be introduced for active users. The company has not yet revealed the exact quota figures for the free segment, but promises that the Premium plan will offer "significantly more capabilities".
The Arms Race and New Business Models
The launch of paid AI is just the tip of the iceberg. Behind the scenes, a massive infrastructure race is unfolding. According to Bloomberg, Mark Zuckerberg is ready to invest at least $600 billion in AI infrastructure in the coming years. A vivid example of the company's ambitions is the construction of a giant data center in Louisiana, with a budget estimated at a minimum of $200 billion.
Alongside AI, Meta is revising the monetization of its social networks. Subscriptions costing between $2.99 and $3.99 are being tested in WhatsApp, Instagram, and Facebook. B2B services for businesses and content creators are highlighted separately, including, for example, access to live page support.
At the same time, the company continues to experiment with interaction formats. Recently, Forum was launched—a mobile app combining Facebook Groups communities and positioning itself as an alternative to Reddit. The service works via a Facebook account, automatically importing user subscriptions and activity history.
