On September 2, 2026, the administration of the Mezhyhirya state park-monument in Kyiv Oblast announced the temporary suspension of all excursions. This was reported by the press office of the State Enterprise "Mezhyhirya Park-Monument of Garden and Park Art of National Significance," as cited by RBC-Ukraine. The decision was made against the backdrop of a deteriorating security situation in the capital region.
What Exactly Was Suspended
"Attention! Excursions at the Mezhyhirya park-monument are temporarily suspended," the press office stated. At the same time, the site itself is not fully closed: visitors are allowed to walk freely around the grounds. "You are welcome to stroll around the territory," they explained to prospective guests. They promised to announce the resumption of the excursion program later on the park's official pages.
The Reason — Safety
The administration emphasized that the decision was prompted by the "security situation." Citizens were reminded of the need to take care of their own safety and were advised, during air-raid alerts, to head to the shelter located in the upper part of the park-monument. "Thank you for your understanding and support. Take care of yourselves," the press office concluded.
Context: Air-Raid Alerts in Kyiv and the Oblast
According to the publication, air-raid alerts have been declared regularly in Kyiv and Kyiv Oblast recently — their number can exceed ten per day, as the Russian Federation launches jet attack drones at the capital region. Against this backdrop, Kyiv authorities have proposed allowing the "green" metro line to operate without restrictions and adjusting curfew rules so that alerts do not paralyze the life of the city.
The Site's History: From Yanukovych's Residence to a State Park
The Mezhyhirya grounds became open to the public after Viktor Yanukovych fled on February 21, 2014, during the Revolution of Dignity. The very next day, activists entered the site, who subsequently established a public organization to care for the park. In July 2023, the Verkhovna Rada adopted a decision to create the Mezhyhirya state park-monument, and the property of the former residence was transferred to state administration.
Status and Subordination
Today the site is part of Ukraine's nature-reserve fund and is considered the "youngest" Ukrainian park — a new generation of nature-reserve fund sites. The park-monument is located in the village of Novyi Petrovtsi in Vyshhorod Raion of Kyiv Oblast and is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Economy, Environment and Agriculture.
