Ukrainian singer Mika Newton commented on her recent performance at a festival in Kyiv and discussed the prospects of returning to the Ukrainian stage in an interview with Ramina. The artist admitted that the question of a full return remains open due to a number of personal and professional circumstances.
Legal and financial challenges
One of the main obstacles to releasing Ukrainian-language versions of her hits is that the copyright for most of the compositions belongs to her former producer, Yuri Falosa. The singer emphasized that such steps require separate agreements and additional resources.
"I can't promise anything. If you start making such requests — I'm coming back — then you have to serve. You need to release songs, meaning I need to establish contact with Yura. Ask for permission or let the lawyers talk," Newton noted.
She also touched upon the financial aspect: according to her, royalties from re-releasing songs do not bring significant income to artists. "These songs, if re-released, are exclusively for the people. Artists don't earn much from royalties. The money isn't that big," the singer explained.
Health as a key factor
Separately, Mika Newton recalled her state of health. Having survived ovarian cancer, she admitted that an active career in Ukraine requires a lot of strength and health. She described her performance at the Kyiv festival more as a "vacation" for herself and her family than the beginning of a new chapter.
"Chris won't be able to travel with me constantly. For us, it was like a vacation. So instead of the Maldives, we went to Ukraine to give people a good mood," the artist said.
Before one of the concerts, the singer received a recommendation to undergo a new biopsy. "Adventures again. I'm not talking about this anywhere. So, don't judge people. I tried my best to come and make a holiday for the people," she shared.
Possible return under favorable conditions
Newton did not rule out the possibility of returning to the Ukrainian stage if her health permits. "If God gives me health, the biopsy comes back normal, we will decide. I will do everything so that the people who listened to my music come to the concert and are satisfied with me," the singer assured.
