Immediately after resigning from the post of Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Mikhail Fedorov received an unexpected offer from abroad. The head of the Italian Ministry of Defense, Guido Crosetto, personally invited the former minister to work as an advisor in Rome.
A personal call from Rome
The Italian Minister of Defense stated that contact with his Ukrainian colleague was re-established almost instantly after he left the government. According to Crosetto, he called Fedorov the very next day after the official announcement of his resignation.
“I called him the day after his dismissal and asked: ‘When do you want to come to Rome and work with me as an advisor?’” — Crosetto quoted his own words. Fedorov accepted the offer, viewing it as a sign of respect and friendship.
Recognition of contributions to technological transformation
Crosetto did not hold back on compliments, highly evaluating Fedorov’s contribution to the modernization of the Ukrainian army. The Italian minister emphasized that his Ukrainian colleague became one of those who completely rewrote the rules of modern warfare.
According to Crosetto’s assessment, it was precisely thanks to the implementation of new technologies and the development of unmanned systems initiated by Fedorov that Ukraine managed to first contain the invasion and then turn the tide of hostilities in its favor.
Refusal of new positions in Kyiv
The events surrounding Fedorov’s change in status are not limited to international offers. Earlier, it was reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tried to keep the former minister in the government by offering him the position of advisor to the head of state.
Fedorov refused this option. Later, Zelenskyy stated that he had offered the former minister the post of Vice Prime Minister for Military Innovations. However, Fedorov remained unyielding, stating that he would not accept any government position other than the one he previously held.
