On Wednesday, July 8, Odesa once again became the target of an aggressive attack by Russian occupiers. The city was struck by two ballistic missiles. The consequences of this attack included casualties, injuries, and damage to urban infrastructure.

Casualties and Injured

Sergiy Lysak, Head of the Odesa City Military Administration, confirmed the tragic consequences of the shelling. According to him, two people were killed as a result of the attack. "The enemy attacked Odesa. Infrastructure was damaged. Unfortunately, two people died. Condolences to the relatives and loved ones. It is also known about two injured," the official stated.

Later, Lysak clarified the casualty figures: the Russian attack claimed the lives of four people. Another six people were injured. Men aged 32, 47, and 48 are in critical condition in hospitals. A 65-year-old and a 67-year-old man sustained moderate injuries.

Destruction and Emergency Services Operations

Oleg Kiper, Head of the Odesa Regional Military Administration, reported on the scale of material damage. As a result of a direct hit, cargo and passenger cars, as well as a minibus, caught fire. Fire services quickly contained the blaze.

All relevant services are working at the site of the missile impacts, and efforts are underway to eliminate the consequences of the shelling. Air raid alerts remain in effect in the city, and local residents are urged to stay in safe places.

Investigation of War Crimes

Law enforcement agencies have already begun documenting facts of war crimes. A pre-trial investigation has been initiated under Article 438 (Part 2) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for committing war crimes resulting in death.

This is not an isolated case of attacks on the region. Yesterday, Russian forces struck Odesa with a ballistic missile equipped with a cluster warhead, injuring six people. A building on the territory of an industrial enterprise also caught fire. On the night of July 6, the city was attacked by combat drones, during which a 23-year-old man was injured and residential buildings were damaged.

Countermeasures and Defense

In the context of increasing threats, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during a recent trip to the Odesa region, held a meeting with the command of the Ukrainian Navy. During the meeting, the expansion of the helicopter fleet was discussed to more effectively counter Russian drones.
