The basketball club «Monaco» is demonstrating a high level of readiness for the 2026/27 season, despite the ongoing legal uncertainty surrounding the change of ownership. The club's management has already begun the active phase of preparation, the key element of which is the decision to retain the current coaching staff.
According to the French publication BeBasket, citing Sport RBC.UA, the new owner of the club — the investment group Helen Holdings — is interested in continuing to work with the coaching tandem, which includes the Ukrainian specialist Serhiy Gladyr. His partner in the staff, Manuchar Markoishvili, also remains in the team's plans.
Legal finale and budget prospects
The fate of the club will be decided in the near future by the Appeal Chamber of the French Basketball Federation (FFBB). To officially approve the deal to acquire the club, the Helen Holdings group must submit an additional package of documents by July 27. Successful completion of this procedure will open up prospects for «Monaco» to start the new season with a budget exceeding 10 million euros.
Roster strategy: betting on foreign players and local stars
Parallel to the legal processes, the club is actively working on forming the playing squad. The strategy of the new management involves creating a roster of 10–11 basketball players, where high-quality foreign players will play a dominant role. At the same time, to comply with the regulations of the French league, «Monaco» is obliged to sign at least four players with JFL status — basketball players who have undergone training in France.
The role of Serhiy Gladyr in the history of the club
Retaining the Ukrainian coach in the staff seems like a logical step, given his contribution to the development of the team. Serhiy Gladyr has been working at «Monaco» since 2020. During this period, the club twice became the champion of France, won silver medals, won the domestic Cup and the EuroCup, and also took third place in the EuroLeague.
Gladyr played a special role in the season after the departure of Vassilis Spanoulis, when he took over the team. It was under his leadership that the «Monegasques» managed to turn the tide of the final series against «Paris», winning two decisive matches and reclaiming the title of French champions after a one-year break.
Thus, despite external factors, the internal structure of the club remains stable, and the ambitions of the management are aimed at maintaining the status of one of the leaders of European basketball.
