In 2026, the social support system in Ukraine will become more transparent and convenient for citizens. The Pension Fund of Ukraine (PFU) has expanded the list of recipient categories for whom a one-time financial aid payment for Independence Day will be assigned in automatic mode. This means that a significant portion of the population will not have to spend time gathering documents and visiting fund offices.
Who will receive the payment without an application
According to information provided by RBC-Ukraine, citing the PFU, the automatic payment mechanism will affect the most vulnerable categories of citizens. The money will be transferred in August along with the main pension, subsidy, or benefit. It is worth noting separately that for this group of the population, the procedure for applying to the fund is completely abolished.Citizens who are already registered in the social protection system and have a confirmed status will receive the automatic payment. This concerns:
- Pensioners;
- Subsidy recipients;
- Citizens with benefits.
It is important to understand that the system will only work for those whose data has already been entered into the fund's database. If a citizen belongs to one of these categories but does not receive regular payments, they will still have to act independently.
Special procedure for active military personnel
For war veterans who continue to serve, a separate mechanism for distributing funds is provided. In this case, the money does not go to the citizens' personal accounts but is transferred directly to the accounts of military units, institutions, or organizations where they serve.This rule applies even in cases where a serviceman is simultaneously a pensioner or receives subsidies and benefits. The PFU strongly recommends that active military personnel ensure that their employer (unit command) has up-to-date information about their war veteran status so that the payment is made correctly.
Who needs to submit an application independently
Despite the expansion of automation, some citizens will still have to personally contact the PFU authorities. This concerns those who have the right to the payment but do not fall into the categories of automatic accrual. To receive the funds, it is necessary to submit an application, attaching copies of a passport and a document confirming the corresponding status.Deadlines and terms for receiving assistance
The Pension Fund has clarified important timeframes for receiving payments in 2026. Citizens who acquire the right to the payment before August 24 but, for some reason, do not receive assistance before October 1, have the right to contact the PFU authorities additionally.In such a case, the payment will be made in the period until November 1, 2026. This gives citizens an additional month to resolve issues with documents and receive the due funds.
Earlier, the government approved the amounts of one-time financial aid for Independence Day of Ukraine in 2026. The amounts range from 450 to 3100 hryvnias depending on the recipient's status. Payments are provided for veterans, people with disabilities due to war, participants in hostilities, families of deceased defenders, and other categories.
