The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) conducted an operation to detain a sitting Member of Parliament. The politician was taken to a temporary detention center (IVS) in compliance with a ruling by the High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC).

Although the official SAP statement does not disclose the suspect's surname, sources from RBC-Ukraine confirm that the individual is Sergey Kuzminych, a deputy from the 'Servant of the People' faction. The reason for the detention was the accused's systematic failure to appear in court, which created a real threat of delaying the judicial process.

Systematic evasion of justice

According to the investigation, for almost four years, the deputy repeatedly ignored summons to court. The last time he failed to appear, he cited an official business trip to Spain. Previously, after being placed on the wanted list, Kuzminych refused to receive summonses and did not contact the investigator. It was precisely due to such actions that the HACC decided on his forced delivery.

Currently, the prosecutor's motion to change the preventive measure to detention without the option of bail is scheduled for consideration on June 29, 2026, at 11:00.

Details of the corruption scheme

The indictment was submitted to the court back in 2022. According to the investigation materials, the deputy's actions are classified under Part 2 of Article 369-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine — abuse of influence.

On January 28, 2022, Sergey Kuzminych was caught red-handed receiving a bribe. Through an intermediary, he received 558,000 UAH in illegal benefits. According to the investigation, this amount constituted 30% of the contract value for the supply of an ultrasound diagnostic system to a municipal hospital in Zhytomyr.

The money was a reward for influencing officials at the medical institution to ensure a private company won the procurement. Furthermore, the investigation claims that the deputy guaranteed assistance in implementing two additional contracts for the supply of an MRI system and laparoscopic equipment in exchange for this "kickback." The total value of these potential deals exceeded 38 million UAH.

Previously, NABU had published operational video footage capturing the moment the deputy received money from a representative of the medical equipment supplier.
