Ukrainian winger Mykhailo Mudryk has officially become a Tottenham player, moving from Chelsea on a loan deal until the end of the 2026/27 season. The 25-year-old has already commented on his transfer and, first and foremost, focused on resuming his collaboration with the Spurs' head coach, Roberto De Zerbi. According to Mudryk himself, this is not just a new club for him, but a return to a specialist with whom he had already achieved success and who, by his own admission, became a figure of both mentor and support.
Return to His "Football Father"
Mudryk and De Zerbi already had experience working together at Donetsk's Shakhtar. Under the Italian's guidance, the Ukrainian played 19 matches, scoring 2 goals and providing 9 assists — figures that clearly demonstrate how effectively the attacking winger thrives in this coach's system. That is precisely why at Tottenham Mudryk calls De Zerbi "his football father," while the coach in turn compares his player to "his son."
"He is my football father. I believe in him, I trust him. If he needs me, I am always here. I know what he wants from me. And with him I always feel that I am progressing. He can bring out the best in you and guide you in the right direction so that you develop your skills and your game," Mudryk stated in a comment published on Tottenham's official website and forwarded by Sport RBC.UA.
The Second Ukrainian in Spurs History
The move to the London club makes Mudryk the second Ukrainian footballer in Tottenham's history. The first representative of Ukraine in the Spurs squad was Serhiy Rebrov, who played for the team from 2000 to 2004. Thus, after more than two decades, the club has once again signed a player from Ukraine, and this time it is an attacking winger who has already established himself in the Chelsea and national team setups.
Mudryk himself also noted that De Zerbi's style of football suits all attacking players: according to him, the coach demands the maximum from his players, but it is precisely these demands that allow players to show their best qualities and squeeze the most out of their potential.
Debut and the Club's Current Situation
Mudryk could make his debut for his new club as early as Saturday, September 5, in the away Premier League match against Nottingham Forest. For Tottenham, the start of the season has been unsuccessful: after two opening rounds, De Zerbi's side sit 20th in the Premier League table, having earned not a single point. In such a situation, the arrival of an experienced and technical winger in the squad could become an important reinforcement for the attack and one of the factors capable of changing the course of the championship for the Londoners.
