In the early hours of June 14, Mykolaiv once again found itself at the epicenter of Russian aggression. As dawn approached, the city was subjected to an attack using unmanned aerial vehicles. Explosions were heard throughout the city following strikes on infrastructure facilities; however, preliminary reports indicate that no casualties have been reported.

Timeline of the morning attack

Events unfolded rapidly. According to the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the first air raid alert was issued at 04:20 when an enemy jet drone was spotted heading towards Mykolaiv. Just 20 minutes later, a whole group of drones occupied the airspace above the city. By 05:00, powerful explosions were heard in various districts of the city.

Targets and consequences of the strike

Vitaliy Kim, Head of the Mykolaiv Regional Military Administration, responded promptly to the incident, confirming the attack and specifying the targets of the Russian strikes. According to him, facilities critical to the city's life were hit.

"Mykolaiv. Transport and energy infrastructure was under attack by 'Shaheds'. As of now, there are no casualties," Vitaliy Kim wrote in his Telegram channel.

A history of constant shelling

Mykolaiv remains one of the priority targets for Russian attacks. The city is regularly subjected to strikes using various means of destruction, causing significant damage to civilian objects and utility systems.

The spring of 2024 was particularly active:

  • April 30: The city was attacked by drones. As a result, a private house and a multi-story building were damaged, and a fire broke out at the scene.
  • April 19: Late in the evening, Mykolaiv was hit by drones again. A multi-story building, several private houses, power lines, as well as bus and tram tracks were damaged.
  • April 16: A morning attack led to a complete power outage in the city, leaving residents without electricity.

Despite regular strikes, the city's infrastructure continues to function, and rescue services respond promptly to the consequences of shelling, minimizing risks to the population.
