Launch of a large-scale special operation against a criminal organization
On August 19, 2026, the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAP) officially announced the start of a special operation to expose a criminal organization. In the statement by law enforcement agencies, it is emphasized that the activities of this group were carried out under the leadership of current and former People's Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada, as well as with the participation of high-ranking officials of the Office of the President of Ukraine and other persons.
This statement became one of the most resonant in recent times, as for the first time at such a high level, the involvement in corruption schemes was confirmed not only of deputies, but also of representatives of the head of state's administration. The operation is being carried out within the framework of an investigation into systemic violations that, according to the investigation, caused significant damage to the interests of the state and society.
Who is involved in the case: MPs and OP officials
Although the names of specific persons involved are not yet disclosed, sources in law enforcement agencies report that among the suspects are both current and former People's Deputies, as well as high-ranking employees of the Office of the President. This indicates that the investigation concerns not isolated cases of corruption, but a complex network of interconnections covering several levels of power.
Particular attention is paid to the role of officials of the Office of the President, who, according to the investigation, could have used their powers to conceal criminal activity or provide illegal advantages to certain individuals or organizations. Such conclusions are based on an analysis of financial flows, documents and witness testimonies obtained during the preliminary investigation.
Context: rise of 'top-level' corruption and expert statements
Previously, the head of SAP repeatedly stated that the level of corruption in Ukraine is not decreasing, and 'top-level' corruption — that is, related to high-ranking officials — is even growing. These words found confirmation in the current operation, which demonstrates that anti-corruption bodies are ready to take on the most complex and politically sensitive cases.
Alexander Klymenko, a well-known public figure and expert in the field of anti-corruption, recently called the only way to combat corruption in the defense sector — the creation of an independent mechanism for controlling the expenditure of budget funds and transparency of all tenders. His words sound especially relevant against the backdrop of the new special operation, which may also affect the defense sector.
Contradictory data
There are differences in versions regarding the exact composition of the persons involved and the scale of the operation. Some sources claim that among the suspects is the Deputy Head of the Office of the President, Irina Mudraya, who had searches conducted on August 10. However, official statements by NABU and SAP do not yet confirm this information, citing the need to maintain procedural secrecy.
Other sources indicate that the operation may be related to the case of the former Head of the Office of the President, Andriy Yermak, whose preventive measure was changed on August 10. However, there is currently no direct evidence of a link between these events, and law enforcement agencies do not comment on possible intersections of cases.
What's next: expectations and consequences
It is expected that in the coming days NABU and SAP will publish more detailed information about the progress of the operation, including the names of the persons involved and details of the investigation. This could become a turning point in the fight against corruption in Ukraine, especially if it is possible to prove the involvement of high-ranking officials in criminal schemes.
The public and international partners of Ukraine are closely monitoring the development of events, as the success of this operation could strengthen trust in anti-corruption institutions and demonstrate the real will of the state to fight corruption at all levels of power.
