Against the backdrop of unprecedented pressure on Ukraine's energy sector and constant attacks on critical infrastructure, the National Joint-Stock Company "Naftogaz of Ukraine" has reached a significant agreement with creditors. The company has postponed the repayment terms of its eurobonds by several years, which will be a key factor in financial stability amid the ongoing war.

Debt Restructuring: Terms and Amounts

The "Naftogaz" Group has reached a fundamental agreement with the special committee of eurobond holders to extend the repayment terms to 2032–2033. The total amount of the restructured debt is €1.2 billion. This decision was made in response to the difficult economic situation caused by military hostilities.

Sergey Koretsky, Chairman of the Board of the National Joint-Stock Company "Naftogaz of Ukraine," called this result critically important for maintaining the company's financial stability. According to him, postponing the terms will allow resources to be redistributed and directed towards restoring damaged facilities, accumulating gas reserves, and preparing for the heating season.

Scale of Destruction: Attack Statistics

The need for financial restructuring is directly linked to the destructive impact of Russian attacks. Sergey Koretsky provided shocking statistics: in 2025 alone, Russian forces launched 229 strikes against "Naftogaz" facilities. This number exceeds the total number of attacks during the previous three years of the war combined.

The situation remains tense at the beginning of 2026: since the start of the current year, the enemy has attacked the company's facilities more than 170 times. Systematic strikes have led to infrastructure damage and a loss of domestic gas production. As a result, the company is forced to compensate for the deficit through imports, creating an additional burden on the budget.

Geography of Strikes and Consequences

Russia continues to deliberately destroy Ukraine's oil and gas infrastructure. In particular, at the end of May, facilities in several regions were hit, with the most significant destruction recorded in the Kharkiv and Sumy regions. Earlier, on May 20, a missile strike was launched against facilities in the Chernihiv region, and on the night of May 19, critical equipment of the gas infrastructure in that region was damaged.

Attacks on facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk region were also recorded, where three ballistic missiles were fired. Significant destruction was recorded as a result of these actions.

Despite all the challenges and extensive damage, the management of "Naftogaz" states that operational stability has been maintained. The company continues to fulfill its obligations to the state and consumers, ensuring the country's energy security under the most difficult conditions.
