The energy infrastructure of the Chernihiv region has been hit. As a result of the attack, tens of thousands of residents of the region are left without electricity. Energy workers have already begun to eliminate the consequences, however, the timing of the full restoration of power supply remains uncertain.

Scale of outages

According to JSC "Chernihivoblenergo", almost 70,000 subscribers have been cut off as a result of the Russian strike. Power outages were recorded mainly in the Chernihiv and Koriukivka districts. The exact number of affected consumers is more than 69,000 people.

Earlier, it was reported that more than 61,000 subscribers were left without light in the city of Chernihiv itself. However, as the information was clarified, the scale of the outages was adjusted, covering the surrounding areas as well.

Emergency restoration work

Specialists of the energy company have already begun to eliminate the consequences of the attack. Emergency crews are working in an intensified mode, carrying out necessary repair work on damaged sections of the network. The main task is to restore power supply to the residents of the affected areas as soon as possible.

Representatives of "Chernihivoblenergo" do not yet give accurate forecasts for the timing of full restoration. The situation requires time to diagnose and repair complex equipment damaged during the attack.

Global context of the energy crisis

Events in Ukraine are taking place against the backdrop of a tense situation in the world's energy sector. A reminder of the fragility of power supply systems has also come from across the ocean. The largest US grid operator, PJM Interconnection, which provides power to about 67 million consumers in the eastern part of the country and the Midwest, was forced to declare an emergency power conservation mode.

The American company has launched special programs to reduce consumption in order to reduce the load on the power grid. This demonstrates that problems with power supply and the need for strict load management are challenges faced by both active combat zones and stable regions of the world.
