Streaming giant Netflix has officially announced the development of a series based on one of the most popular novels of recent years — 'Icebreaker' by Hannah Grace. The book, which has sold over one million copies, has already become a cultural phenomenon, and now the story of love on ice will move to television screens.
The plot revolves around the intersection of the lives of two bright athletes. At the center of the story is ambitious figure skater Anastasia Allen, whose dream of Olympic gold clashes with unexpected circumstances. Her world is turned upside down when she is forced to share the ice rink with Nate Hawkins. He is the charismatic star of the university hockey team and the life of the party, whose appearance changes the rules of the game for the heroine.
Joint training sessions become a catalyst for events, gradually bringing the young people closer. Their relationship goes beyond sports rivalry, turning into a turbulent romantic storyline where feelings get out of control.
The Creative Team
A powerful team of professionals is responsible for realizing the project. Amanda Lasher, known for her work on cult projects like 'Gossip Girl' and 'The Society', has been appointed as the showrunner. She will also serve as a screenwriter and executive producer, taking responsibility for preserving the atmosphere of the original.
Jade Bartlett, whose name is familiar to viewers from films like 'The Road', 'Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness', and 'The Favourite', has become a co-writer of the screenplay. According to Bartlett, the main task of the adaptation is to convey not only the external attractiveness of the characters but also their inner depth.
"This is a story filled with ambitious, talented, and undoubtedly attractive characters. But the real twist is that, first and foremost, they are kind, deeply sensitive people... and we can't get enough of them," the screenwriter noted.
Alex Cooper, Matt Kaplan, and Mina Lefevre have also joined the list of executive producers.
Expectations and Uncertainty
At this time, Netflix has not revealed details regarding the cast or the premiere date. The project is in the active development stage, but the news has already caused a storm of reaction on social media. Fans of the book are actively discussing the adaptation, trying to guess who will play the lead roles, and hoping that the passionate and romantic atmosphere that conquered millions of readers will be preserved on screen.
