The London Film Festival, running from October 7 to October 18, 2026, has traditionally brought together a large-scale and diverse program. It includes projects across various genres—ranging from deep sci-fi and whimsical comedy to gritty crime stories and poignant biographical dramas. The stellar cast is breathtaking, featuring Jenna Ortega, Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Andrew Scott, and many other acclaimed cinematic masters.

Sci-Fi Worlds and Family Dramas by Taika Waititi

One of the most anticipated projects of the showcase is Taika Waititi's film, based on the famous novel by Nobel laureate Kazuo Ishiguro. At the center of the plot is Clara, an artificial friend created to help people overcome loneliness, played by Jenna Ortega. The heroine enters the family of Josie (Mia Tharia), a severely ill girl, trying to support her and her mother, played by Amy Adams. Festival screenings are scheduled for mid-October, with a wider release following shortly.

New York Crime Chronicles and Star Duets

Equally intriguing is James Gray's crime thriller set in 1980s New York. Irwin, an engineer played by Miles Teller, accepts a well-paying job offered by his brother—a former police officer played by Adam Driver. However, the lucrative deal turns dangerous as the brothers get entangled with the Russian mafia. Scarlett Johansson also stars, with the story focusing on a family bond tested by money and violence.

Psychological Challenges and Auteur Experiments

Standing out among the festival participants is Florian Zeller's new work, which brings Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem together on screen. A couple married for 17 years sees their routine life crumble after the husband accepts a controversial commission to build a luxury bunker for a tech billionaire. This psychological drama explores themes of privilege, desires, and paranoia, featuring a stellar supporting cast including Stephen Graham, Paul Dano, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Musical Stories and Biographical Motifs

Biopics and musical canvases hold a significant place in the lineup. Tony Gilroy presented a film about a talented cellist named Alex, played by Pedro Pascal. After a string of romances and orchestra changes, he arrives in Los Angeles to work as a session musician in a film scoring studio. The film's robust musical component features a dedicated team of nine composers.
