A worrying signal is being detected in Moldova: preparations for the country's next elections have turned into a battlefield for information warfare. Alexander Mustiață, Director of the Moldovan Service of Information and Security (SIB), has warned of a large-scale destabilization campaign already launched by the Kremlin.
According to intelligence data, Russia intends to actively interfere in the electoral process scheduled for 2026. Experts note that the adversary is not only increasing activity but is also radically changing its toolkit, shifting to new digital platforms.
Tactical Shift: From Telegram to TikTok
One of the main features of this new wave of attacks is the change in priority channels for spreading disinformation. While the messenger Telegram was previously the main tool of influence, Moscow has now chosen TikTok as its key platform.
"Russia is implementing these using methods that have never been used before," emphasized the head of the SIB. This indicates that Russian intelligence services are adapting to changing media consumption habits and attempting to reach a broader, younger audience.
Professional Teams and the Goal of Undermining Trust
Alexander Mustiață revealed the structure of the adversary's operations. Large teams of specialists are operating in Moldova, receiving high pay for their work. Their task is to attack the country's information space daily.
The main strategic goal of these actions, according to the SIB Director, is not just the spread of lies, but the systematic undermining of citizens' trust in democratic institutions. The Kremlin aims to create a sense of government inefficiency among the population so that during the next electoral cycle, the electorate will doubt the legitimacy of the elections and state structures.
Moldova Ready to Resist
Despite increased pressure, Moldovan authorities are demonstrating readiness for defense. According to Mustiață, the country is now much better prepared to resist external interference than in previous years. Authorities already know how to effectively counter attempts at destabilization.
"At the same time, we must not relax, because they are not relaxing," summarized the SIB Director. The warning about the growth of propaganda activities in 2026 sounds like a call for vigilance for all citizens capable of critically assessing the information they receive.
These events are taking place against the backdrop of other geopolitical tensions in the region. It was previously reported that Moldovan President Maia Sandu plans to discuss the Transnistria issue in the context of negotiations regarding Ukraine. Furthermore, other worrying trends are being recorded in the region: Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski has already warned about Russia's possible preparation of provocations against Warsaw.
